I am in the process of completing a top rebuild on my 1600 DP for my 71 bus. I have also added a 3.5 oil sump to allow for more oil to hopefully stay in the crankcase when I'm winding down the freeway or pulling a hill. Has anyone added an oil sump to their air cooled engine and noticed a change in oil temperature?

Re: additional oil sumps
Sun, August 2, 2009 - 6:16 AMThe most deadly thing for our engines is oil slosh. That's when you're turning a curve or on an incline and the oil moves from one side to the other, starving part of the motor of life sustaining liquid. The sump won't help with that :(
But I ran a 2.5 sump on my bug and did notice radical temp drops.
